Dental question!

Comments

I chipped a tooth once (actually this jackass knocked my beer bottle into my tooth, but I digress). I went to the dentist and he bonded it a little bit and smoothed off the rough edges. It didn't hurt at all, but then it wasn't a very bad chip. You shoould at least go get it checked out, just in case.
thanks for today's qotd :)

caps don't hurt :-)
they numb you first... and then it's just a little time consuming

I know I'm late in replying & you may have already been to the dentist, but here's my 2¢. If it's just a little chip & the tooth already has a filling, they may just end up drilling the old filling a little, then refilling the tooth. If they use the porcelain filling that matches your enamel, they can use a form to fill in the part of the tooth that broke off. No big deal & no pain. As for crowns, I've had one done & it didn't hurt at all. The worst part about it (other than the cost) was the shot to numb me up. Like Carly said, the rest was just time consuming. They grind your regular tooth down to a post, take a mold of the post & surrounding teeth, then put on a temporary crown that you'll have to wear for about a week while the permanent one is being made from the mold. When you go back, the dentist will take of the temp. crown & glue the permanent one in. He/she may have to sand it down a bit so you can have a normal bite, but it's not painful at all. You just feel the pressure.

Good luck! I hope it's not too bad. :)

I hope you've seen that you have the QotD today (Nov 11)!! Maybe Carly's caps haven't hurt, but mine have. Not for this matter, but for general denistry, you might want to look into finding someone who offers "Aqualase" procedures. It's relatively new but it's a water/laser combo instrument for working on teeth and is supposed to be 100% painless, plus far more accurate (and therefore less invasive) than traditional drilling.

Hope you're better now and congrats on QotD!!

I have a fear of losing my teeth too! It's weird I panick anytime something happens with my teeth... hoping for the best for you.
